logging into Windows 10 v1909 using Fusion 11.5 in Mojave leads to black screen

My iMac Pro is running the latest version of Mojave. After buying the upgrade for Fusion 11.5 yesterday I installed it on the iMac, which has not had Fusion or any other VM software on it before. I then created a new VM for Windows 10 64b, and installed Windows 10 Pro 1909 using a freshly created Media Creator Tool USB flash drive. The install went fine and I was able to activate it and repeatedly use it to install additional Windows updates. Everything seemed fine.

But after a couple of instances where I could not paste text from the Mac clipboard into Windows, even though clipboard sharing was enabled in Fusion settings, I realized I had not installed Vmware Tools yet. I found that option in one of Fusion's drop-down menus and completed the Tools installation. Upon completion the VM was much higher resolution. I restarted it and it took me to the Windows login screen. After entering my PIN number the Fusion window turned black and did not change. I finally used the Option key to Power Off the VM, whereupon I rebooted, logged in and got the same black screen. There are many videos and references to similar sounding problems with Fusion but usually Catalina is involved. I'm using Mojave. Any suggestions?

A Horizon Lab för a decent money?

Have started studying VMware Horizon. Right now Im just a regular student wondering if there is any cloud
provider where I can build all the server resources required for a Lab, for a decent money?

I belive I need to set  up these components:

vCenter

ESXi

Connection

DC

File/ Sql

Composer

Security

(Only want to publish only 2 desktops/ VDI and 2 applications, for 2 users)

Really appreciate your answer

I think you are confused with VTEP learning procedure. In a nutshell -

NSX-v controller cluster is used to populate the VTEP, MAC, and ARP tables . Basically each host will send the reports (VTEP,MAC,ARP) to controllers and controllers  eventually populates its local VTEP table and with this information ,it will send a VTEP report(VTEP -VNI mapping) message to all ESXi hypervisors hosting VMs actively(This is important concept to remember, if there are no active workloads , no reports be will be shared)connected to that same VXLAN segment.

I would request you to go through below design guide( page 33) and start reading from logical switching till VTEP learning methods. That would certainly clear your basic doubts.

Re: Windows 10 slow badge in times with Imprivata

Removed Imprivata Agent and started to get improved times, called them and found out that the Appliance I was on needed a build update and the Agent that  I was using on the client need to  be downgraded to one that they don't "officially support" but works.

So I edit the Golden image and now there is an update on the Golden image that keeps getting rolled back and not installed, and it's screwing up the recompose process so now I am getting Errors displayed in the pool

Error expanded

but removing Imprivata did solve that issue.

Is there a tool to manage multiple Update managers?

Hi all,

I wonder if there is such an instrument in VMware structure which can manage several vCenter Update Managers, on any level (vCloud Director, any of vRealize, etc)?

Have anyone ever met something with this functionality?

Thanks for your comments.

Yes, it is private. I got help from others to get this done.

Thanks,

This appears to be a bug in player 15 or maybe they removed the option at some point. I downloaded Player 12 and it works just as expected.

Apatten: what entries did you put in your /etc/host file?

Here's mine right now - still having the problem as the OP.

We use this for devel purposes. Just use different machine prefixes and network profiles to avoid hostname / IP conflicts.

Shinking a Thin Provisioned VM

Hello!

I have about a dozen VMs in Vcenter.  They are all ThinProvisioned and about 200 GB in size.  I wonder if it's possible to shrink some of these VMs a bit so that they'll take less time to backup to a cloud DR service.  There is generally about 120 GB free on these VMs and it would be great to just shrink the total size down to say, 150 GB.  I wonder what issues I might encounter or if it's generally safe to do this.   Thanks!

If you read through the thread, you'll find this is not a bug but works as designed:

Re: Custom Properties not being passed in Event Broker payload? [Permissions?]

there was a security hole risk in vRA that allowed users making requests via vRO or REST to add request properties that were disallowed through the UI.   In the UI, a basic user does not have access to any properties not marked show-in-request in the blueprint (i.e., the properties tab is hidden from them).  Customers viewed this as a must-fix security hole

Site Read Locality and Site Disaster Tolerance query

Hallo All,

Looks like I'm missing something.

Hope it should be okay to ask here.

I'm reading vSAN 6.7 Deep Dive.

In stretch cluster we use "Read Locality" to keep restrict reading within the Site-A but does it mean the in case Primary site fails, then no replica will be available there to recover.

So in other words, If I put Site Disaster Tolerance = Dual Site Mirroring and also select "Read Locality" how will it function? Or I'm missing something.

Thanks,

Preetam

Hello Preetam,

With the policy you noted above, Writes still go to data-replicas in both sites and thus there is site-redundancy - it's just the Read IOs that will only be served from the data in the site that VM is running on.

If I understand it correctly I would add another vmkernel to each host  tagged for witness traffic (I could use vmk0 but rather not).

This is 100% correct. I think you forgot but must have taken care. That is the segregation of Witness Node traffic. By default, it gets attached to vmk0. Unless you wish to keep that way everything looks okay. I have created similar design. In our case, (we have leaf and spine) we have kept Leaf01 and Leaf02 as Isolation addresses for Primary site and Leaf03 and Leaf04 as isolation addresses for Secondary site. Leaf01, Leaf02 are in DC1 and Leaf03 and Leaf04 in DC2.

I have attached reference Architecture from my design

Thanks Bob for confirming. Super!!!

Not that I'm aware of it. But the VVDS approach is to use UMDS and then point VUMS to centralize repository.
